About Us

Hand in Hand Foundation has provided over 40 years of services to the vulnerable children of Northern California through a family-centered orientation. In 2005, David Boschen was selected to be the Executive Director who significantly shifted the focus and vision of Hand in Hand to permanence by adoption of children into families, both from public fost-to-adopt or private infant adoption services.

Dave's professional experience started in 1984 working with children and families as a licensed family and child therapist in multiple settings including his work overseas supporting orphan projects in Romania, Uganda and Sri Lanka. Whether home or abroad his passion remains supporting permanence in children's lives.

Hand in Hand has faced numerous changes in the past 40 years including the recent changes initiated in 2015 of our State's laws that govern how we as a society provide social services to children and their families. Some changes are harder to accomplish as a small agency required to provide broader services under the new regulations. Long story short, we accepted the circumstances which lead to phasing out our Foster to Adoption program beginning in 2018.

The past four years have seen an unprecedented impact locally and around the world. We have made our best efforts to sustain our private adoption work, again coming to the conclusion in August of 2022 it is time to close the adoption program. We are very grateful for the 430 children who have been given a new family during the lifespan of our fost-to-adopt program and 46 more through our private adoptions.

The vision and focus of Hand In Hand as a non-profit organization remains strong as we continue our focus of changing lives for children of hard places in our Global work in Romania, Africa, Thailand, Bangladesh and potentially the Ukraine. Opportunities of caregiver education, supporting individual youth and taking teams for building projects remain consistent to our future hopes.

David Boschen will continue providing adoption work as a registered ASP (Adoption Service Provider) and offer consultation to families looking to determine their adoption plan. He also will be working for other agencies providing adoption services under their programs. You can contact him at the numbers and email on the contact page.
